Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Course overview

Around 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability. Owing to the fact that they are likely to find it more difficult than others to describe their symptoms, a good knowledge of legislation and the healthcare system, as well as an understanding of signs and symptoms of various conditions, is essential for anyone working with individuals with learning disabilities.

Learning Aim

This qualification is designed for learners with an interest in, or who are already working with, individuals with learning disabilities in a variety of roles.
This qualification aims to give learners knowledge and understanding to work with individuals with learning disabilities or difficulties. They will explore the principles of safeguarding and positive risk-taking and gain awareness
of the autistic spectrum.

The objectives of this qualification are to prepare learners for employment and to support a role in the workplace where the individual may work or interact with people with learning disabilities. This is primarily for those within healthcare and social care but may also be useful to those working in education or housing support roles.

Learning outcomes

A statement of what a learner will know,understand or be able to do as a result of a process of learning. As well as achieve a NCFE CACHE LEVEL 2 Certificate in the Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities which is an nationaly accredited and recognised qualification.

“This unit contains three sections:

Section 1: Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
Section 2: Introduction to personalisation in social care
Section 3: Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with learning disabilities
Section 4: Extension activites

Section 1: Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to acess healthcare
Section 2: Introductory awerness of autistic spectrum conditions
Section 3: Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
